The holidays are an important time for family to gather and participate in activities together. We have a packet waiting for your family at church or you can download it here. Why not spend some time this week building a special tree for Thanksgiving, upon which you can hang these special leaves showing what you are thankful to God for.
Then use the same tree to tell the story leading up to Christ’s birth as you count down the days until Christmas. This special time of the year is called Advent and begins November 29 this year. The church, during Advent, looks back upon Christ’s coming in celebration while at the same time looking forward in eager anticipation to the coming of Christ’s kingdom when he returns for his people. Each day has a Bible verse that you can share as a family, then hang on your tree in anticipation and celebration of the coming of Christ into our hearts and homes.
The last set of ornaments is for you to give back to God as you think about what you can do for God throughout the new year. Consider ways in which your family can serve, obey, give, love, and trust. Use your imagination and serve God by serving others.
Consider adding another dimension by listening to Christmas music and discussing what the songs mean. This just may become a family tradition. Enjoy the celebrations with your family!
