This Sunday ERC is heading in a different direction. To help us connect with God’s incredible message of love that we celebrate at Christmas, a dozen members recreate the nativity scene and provide new insight based off of their study and reflection on a baby laid in a manger.
The deepest joy naturally bubbles up in life - sometimes in the most unexpected times.
There are so many levels to peace in this life - but the highest level is found within God’s Kingdom
Hope is only hope if things are hopeless. And in those time of hopelessness, we can find something not of this world which can transform our lives.
The last of the 10 Commandments is about coveting - what is going on in our heads. Our thoughts matter to God, and in our lives.
Truth is the bedrock and the building material for a stable life and true comfort.
What does adultery have to do with our day to day life and obedience? Fortunately it does not come up on a regular basis. However, as with so many of God’s commands there is much more to them when we dig beneath the surface. Adultery and Stealing both relate to the honest lives which honor God, and move us closer to God’s will.
There is much more to some commands - for example living a life that honors God goes beyond simply not murdering. Jesus unlocks a more life giving understanding of the ancient commands.
God’s ways can seem pretty foreign today. Resting for a whole day - every week? That is not how we think or how our society is designed. And most people are much quicker to blame their parents than honor them. Why would we seek out God’s design for time and family? Well, there are some great reasons that have a real impact on your life.
More and more it not part of our society to honor people. We are an individualistic society, and showing honor is not how we naturally think. So what does it mean to honor God, and how can it impact your life?
We are called to me more than people caught in the gravitational pull of Earth. Jesus wants to free us, and it happens by faith. But we need to fire our little thrusters by adding to our faith some good stuff. When we do this we can embark on the journey we were created for. (this will make more sense if you listen to the sermon :-)
True comfort is found when the Spirit intersects with the physical to transform our lives here and now. One of the places this happens is in the sacrament of Communion. It is a family meal that connects us to the grace of God.
In grace we find True Comfort. How do we prepare our hearts and our lives to receive more of the grace of God?

True comfort comes from something beyond personal faith. God designed us to be connected in communities knit together in faith. Our traditions, structures, and patterns serve a divine purpose that God desires.
As we learn of the true comfort available to those who are embraced by God, it is framed in the Reformed tradition. What does “Reformed” mean? And how does it motivate us to live?
For Labor Day Weekend we step away from the Heidelberg Catechism to consider the plan of God that draws generation after generation to Himself. There is great blessing in this, and with great blessing comes great responsibility.
How can we find true and lasting comfort in a distressing world? We need to turn to God through prayer. Jesus gives us a great start with the prayer we often refer to as The Lord’s Prayer - what can we learn?
