After a great summer of vacationing, relaxing and doing those things that can only be taken advantage of in the warm weather, we hope you and your family will make coming to church a priority in your life. Plan to grow your faith with a community of believers, young and old, who are committed to worshiping our Creator and grappling with those questions of faith that can cause us to doubt. Together we can study God’s word and strengthen our faith in a God who loves us enough to die for us.
We will worship together at 9:30 am and then have a barbecue picnic in the pavilion. The church will provide the meat and beverages. You may bring a side dish or dessert to share, but if you can’t, please plan to stay for a great time of eating and fellowship with us.
It has been many years since our education building was built - actually, over 50 years! The Happy kids Day Care and Sunday School area is in need of a face-lift. Our next big project in our capital improvements is to work on that area of our buildings. We will be building a couple of walls, replacing doors, cabinets, sinks, moldings and light fixtures; repairing drywall and giving the rooms a new coat of paint. The flooring will be the last thing to be installed professionally. Otherwise we are doing the work ourselves and again can use your help to make this happen.
We will begin by emptying the rooms of furniture on Friday, August 23 at 3:30 pm. Then we will get to work on repairing/building walls, installing light fixtures, replacing cabinets, sinks, doors and moldings. If you feel led to help make our day care center the best it can be, talk with Pastor Dirk to get an idea of what we will be doing when, and how you can get plugged in to make this happen.
TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME!
For those who have reserved a ticket, the group of 22 will meet at 6:00 pm at church to carpool to enjoy a game together at the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. The ticket includes fireworks at the end of the game!
SEE Y’ALL AT THE GAME!
We need as many hands as possible to get the caulking, painting and cleaning of the pavilion done on Saturday, August 10. All skill levels are needed, so if you can lend a couple of hours of your time, (or the whole day), we can get this done together! Lunch will be provided. (Let Linda know if you are able to help with food that day - 518-732-7766)
After worship on Father’s Day, plan to stay for a potluck picnic in the pavilion. Let’s celebrate our children and the dedication of our wonderful teachers! We will provide the hamburgers and hot dogs. If you are able, please bring a side dish or dessert to share. This will mark the end of Sunday School classes until September. BUT don’t stop coming to church! We will be worshiping through out the summer and have children’s activities planned during worship for the younger ones.
Thank you God for our Teachers and our Children!
Twenty -seven members of our community went to Puerto Rico on spring break to help re-build after hurricane Maria. Learn what it was like to be in this coastal area one and a half years after the hurricane and what the team did to help re-build for the people there. Beans and rice will be provided. Bring a dish to share or just show up to enjoy the presentation and food.
You’ve heard the old saying, “Many hands make light work”. It is so true when it comes to cleaning up after winter at Emmanuel Reformed Church. Please consider coming Saturday morning to lend a hand to get the grounds ready for Easter and the summer. It’s a great family activity so bring the kids - we will find little jobs for their little hands. Together we can make our church look great for God’s glory!

“On January 9, 2019, a four-day Ministry Leader’s Conference will begin in a sea coast village called Las Glorias (Sinaloa) with a special focus on forgiveness. My job is to teach the relational wisdom of the Bible on how to forgive as God forgives . The ministry leaders are converging on Las Glorias from seven ministry locations across Mexico and Texas. They are under the leadership of a parent ministry (OperationFLOW) that recently lost its main leader to major moral failure. We hope to bring the comfort and guidance of the Scriptures to the leaders as they recover from this loss and refocus their efforts to take the Gospel of Christ to their neighbors and friends.
This assignment is one of the most difficult of my life and I beg for your prayers.
So, please pray…
that my teaching preparation and presentation cross-culturally will be Christ-filled, the couple dozen ministry leaders gathered will be encouraged in spirit and renewed in vision and unity, and that all the powers of darkness opposing this conference will be utterly defeated.
To help out financially, please make your donation payable to Emmanuel Reformed Church and send it to the church (with a note designating it for the “Mexico RW Conference”) at 1150 Maple Hill Rd., Castleton, NY 12033; or donate online at https://encountererc.com/donate/. When the link opens, follow it to the “One Time Gift” option and fill in the Note space with the words “Mexico RW Conference.” Approximately $1,200 is needed by Pastor Dave to cover expenses.
7:00 - Candlelight Family Service
A wonderful way to celebrate Christmas with a family of faith.
After the service we have a great dessert reception.
11:00 Candlelight Communion Service
Maybe the best way to welcome in Christmas day. With times of scripture, song, the Lord’s Table, and candle lighting, this is a special service which ends at midnight as we welcome in Christmas.
We are doing something we have never done before, because we have something we have never had before - our new Ministry Pavilion. It seems perfectly festive to have Christmas Party with hot food, hot drinks, carol singing, and a live nativity outside in the pavilion. We will have live jazz music, Christmas ornament making, children’s stories, and more. Mark Saturday, Dec 22 on your calendar and invite a friend. 5-7pm!
Anyone interested in getting information about a high school youth mission trip to Puerto Rico scheduled for the Spring break 2019, is invited to an information meeting on Sunday, November 18 at 6:00 p.m. at ERC. Bring a dish to share as we talk about this great opportunity to do good!
Make your reservations for our delicious Roast Pork Dinner soon! We serve dinner at 4:30 and 6:00 pm. Dinner includes Roast Pork Loin, Butternut Squash, Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, followed by Pumpkin and Apple Pie. We’ve been told that this dinner is the “best one this side of the Hudson”!
Relational Wisdom is “your ability to discern emotions, interests, and abilities in yourself and others, to interpret them in light of God’s word, and to use these insights to manage your responses and relationships constructively.
