Chile Mission Team

April 1-8, 2024

We’re so glad you are getting to know us…

We are followers of Jesus Christ who learning to love the fatherless as God does and therefore are planning to go to the House of Hope in Santiago, Chile April 1-8, 2024. The mission of the home, also known as Casa Esperanza, is to help the young women from the difficult neighborhoods of La Pintana to transition from orphanages to a flourishing, hope-filled adult life in Christ.

Our Chile Ministry Team will seek to bring personal support and spiritual refreshment to Casa Esperanza, enjoy ministering to children in local orphanages, help with light building maintenance, and discover the delights of the wonderful country of Chile.

Your partnership with us is such an encouragement! Please pray for us as we prepare devotionals, testimonies, games, and especially our hearts to serve in Christ’s name.

David Ewert

I love living near my daughter Jennifer, her husband Dirk, and their three amazing sons in the village of Castleton, New York. Formerly a pastor and counselor, I enjoy a flexible schedule and serve alongside our church family in following Jesus Christ wherever he may lead. In the spring of 2022, my wife Julia passed away from a lung disease and I was thrown into the most difficult time of my life. But that experience has led to a much deeper love of God because of his personal care for me. I love to tell others what he has done for me and since I really like talking to people and getting to know them personally, it’s great that I have a small and friendly Shih Tsu dog named Winston. He's so outgoing that I've become good friends with many neighbors. My friends and family all over the world are also very important to me and I have a special interest in praying and supporting the people of God’s Kingdom wherever they can be found. In going to Chile, I hope that I can share the love of Christ and encourage those we meet to trust him more completely with their lives.

Jennifer Gieser

My name is Jennifer Gieser. I am a pastor's wife, a mom of three sons, and a teacher. I live with my family in Castleton, New York, a small town near the state capital city. I teach introductory Spanish having learned Spanish when my family lived in Bolivia about twenty years ago. I love to travel, to see new parts of the world and what God is doing around the globe. One of the most important moments in my spiritual journey with Christ is came when I realized that God's love for me is unconditional, and I have a longing for others to experience His love as well. I am looking forward to this trip to Chile as a way to show God's love to those who may sometimes feel unloved and to build connections with the fatherless - for whom God has a special concern and affection.

Sarah Harris

To start, my name is Sarah Harris, I’m almost 40, I have an incredible husband, two amazing young boys, and a very large and crazy dog.  We live in a house just outside of Albany, NY and I work in IT at a local school district.  I try to connect with the kids that come to my office or as I see them in the hall and give them a new outlook towards the technology that surrounds them.

Ever since I was a kid in a fishing boat with my dad, God has been a huge part of my life.  I have been through tremendous physical and emotional pain in my 40 years, battling a genetic disorder and loosing our little girl.  Through it all His "love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things" (1 Corinthians 13:7).

I am excited to be on the team going to Santiago, Chile because I feel called to be there for these girls as they minister to each other and to the community around them.  I’m excited to learn about their daily lives and how they hope to be used by God in their futures.  I’m also looking forward to meeting the wee ones that come by during the week from the local orphanage and have a great deal of fun while introducing them to God’s love!

Judy Weatherby

Hola. My name is Judy Weatherby. I am a 65 year old retiree. I retired from New York State and moved part-time to Chile after my father in law passed away to take care of my mother-in-law who suffers from Alzheimer’s. While I was in Chile I became affiliated with the Santiago Community Church and through them Casa Esperanza. While I was in Chile I facilitated Bible studies of the books of Mark and Acts at Casa Esperanza . Through these Bible Studies I got to know the girls at Casa Esperanza and Estefania and have come to appreciate their faith and their struggles. My husband and I now have a house on the beach about an hour away from Santiago which makes visiting the girls much harder. I am looking forward to this trip as a means to reconnect with the girls and do what I can to help Casa Esperanza and the children from the community
